Skip Post Declan

I know it doesn't bear thinking about but my choices are:
Coufal - loves the club and gives everything Ogbonna - a cool head but no longer a spring chicken Aguerd - Looked really assured early days but some clangers of late. If he can regain his confidence he deserves to be considered
I struggle after that.

Sorry fella, but are you suggesting we keep Coufal and Aguerd, but bin Oggy?

On a more series note, didn't Soucek get the armband last time Rice was subbed off?

Out of those who start regularly, you’d have to go Paqueta, Soucek or Bowen. I’d have thought Zouma might be a candidate too.

Its pretty clear we need to buy in someone who is captain material. Regardless of Rice's future plans.

I think it will be a Nolan type who is singed from outside.
Not necessarily my choice but wouldn’t surprised to see James Ward Prowse arrive as captain in summer

When I saw Aguerd play for us pre-WC and for the Morrocan's during the WC I saw our future captain.
His form's dipped and I think his confidence has taken a hit as I think he's been surprised at the level of physicality and speed in the PL. But I think he's getting there now and I genuinely reckon next season he will be a top player for us.
As to whether he will be captain I think, for now, I'd go with Zouma. But if we do get JWP from Soton as is being rumoured then he would be a good shout.

Not sure about that, not saying it can't happen, but he still looked shaky on Sunday. He has a long way to go to become a top PL CB.

Fair enough. But I see enough of him when he first arrived and at the WC to know what he's capable of. Yes, people got carried away a little when he got termed as a 'Rolls-Royce' early in the season. But that was because of what people saw in him.
I think the WC drained him and he had a bad injury. He's also had a confidence knock. I think once he rests up in summer and has a pre-season to get fit I've seen enough to say he'll be a top player for us. But you are right, you never know. It's tough at the top level.

If Rice does leave this summer, then with hindsight it was a poor decision to make him captain.
I'd thought he'd make a great captain, but given the rumours about discontent in the dressing room this season, then maybe it was the wrong decision, especially if he had already made up his mind on leaving.
This will be a huge decision for the manager next season. I quite like the idea of an outsider coming in and stamping his authority. There's not too many in the current squad I see capable of stepping up.

I hope you're right, problem I would have is real top drawer CB's don't drop many clangers, but this fella seems to have one in his locker in almost every game, so that's a hell of an improvement needed.
To be fair, I'm a bit old fashioned when it comes to CB's, I still like ''stoppers'' like a Dawson, monsters like Terry, Campbell, Adams, Desailly, etc don't come along too often. Also, he's 27 so if he is going to be top class he better get a hurry on. But yea, next season is the right time to properly judge him.

Manuel, I'm hoping a DOGbonna type turnaround takes place with Aguerd, this site has thankfully been wrong about a few of our players.....

Re: Skip Post Declan

DOGbonna has been written off twice by some on here, initially years back not too long after we signed him, hence the nickname, and them the medical experts among us stated that he couldn't come back from his injury.
Aguerd, there is a good class CB there most would say, he seems to a bit of a confidence player. Fans like to hang their hats on and trust CB's but don't think we can say that about this fella just yet.

Re: Skip Post Declan

Might be wrong but Aguerd looks incredibly one footed to me. Full backs can get away with that but CB's are going to make quite a few cock ups if they can't control, clear or pass the ball properly with their other foot. Seems like most of his errors have come where he should have been using his right foot but opted for using his left instead. If that is the case then the opposition can easily target that and force mistakes.
